A large mass of people witness severe devastation time to time when an earthquake with a magnitude varying between 3.5 to 6.5 or even above on Richter scale struck killing or badly effecting a large number of innocent people. Earth quakes are neither controllable nor any accurate forecast about the location (epicentre) and its intensity can be made out well in advance till now. ALARMING SITUATION IN TODAY’S SCENARIO: Unplanned and unsystematic urbanisation at a faster acceleration has increased the dangers to the human life manifolds. People from villages are rushing towards cities at comparatively quicker pace than ever in the past. This caused forming of intensive concrete jungles all around. These clusters of huge buildings are most dangerous if not follow the proper earth-quake resistance norms either laid down by the architectural science and/ or by the government. Even all the private builders are not taking the precautionary measures in this regard up to satisfactory level and a culture of having sky scrappers in also expanding amongst all builders irrespective of the size, experience, academic qualification or track-record as a builder or as a civil contractor. There can be many factors behind the increasing chances of fear from tremors. Few of them are as follows:- BREAKING NATURAL HARMONY: Vaastu is nothing but living in harmony with nature. It always suggests to intake enough sunlight, proper fresh air & space required to attain life’s charm, hygiene, health, wealth and family’s harmony. It emphasizes to maintain natures own value and sanctity like rainwater harvesting, plantation of trees and making environment free from pollutions & hazards. Too much exploitation of water resources from beneath the earth may also ad-up to the risk factor of earth quakes because the tuning between the rock-plates and saturation of water reserves under the earth becomes unbalanced, leaving much space hollow in the earth. Though our government has initiated few building by-laws so that every new building has an underground water harvesting to recharge the level of ground water, but this should be a moral duty of each of us so that the water recourses under the earth do not exhaust and a balance in the environment could be maintained. SEVERE RISKS IN FUTURE: Metropolitan cities like Delhi and / or neighbouring zone seems to be sitting on the verge of such disasters being located in the seismic zone- IV that is the second maximum sensitive area with respect to the tremors’ possibility. Unplanned urbanisation, development of private colonies, less responsible builders, unawareness among the common mass, tendency to save at the cost of life etc. may be the supporters to intensify the possibilities of huge losses of such naturals disasters. Such incidents shake the human population not only physically but also psychologically and emotionally. They start living under the shadow of unknown uncertain and unexpressed fear. OUR IGNORENCE: It is really surprising that the moment we experience the tragedy of a devastating earthquake, we always become over alert for few days, a bit ignorant after a month and almost forget the last incident after an year or so. Every time people suffer, architects discuss few points, expert put forth on TV or in print media few precautionary measures, few builders and civil contractors are held responsible, the Government announces some aid to the victims and the show is over. Every time the same precautions are tried to be repeated but the ways other than the conventional are not thought upon seriously. If we could give a little attention on thinking as to how the olden buildings stood unshaken in tremors in the olden days, may add up few more ideas to defeat a normal earthquake. If we recall the old Havelis of Rajasthan state, they witness that they must have possess some concrete reason behind there basic strength to conquer such natural disaster. It was nothing but few secrets narrated in Vedic science of Vaastu Shastra. CAUSE OF EARTH QUAKE: Our earth is mainly divided into two types of layers i.e. crust and core and in between these two layers lies the magma mental. The crust is further divided into plates, which remain floating upon this magma. These plates get the motion due to the energy generating from extreme heat of magma. The activity of this movement causes the slide of the plates. Further the plates may get three types of movement i.e. hitting each other, sliding each other away from each one and motion can be the third reason due to friction between and amongst these plates. The powerful motion due to friction may uplift one or many plates on one another, thus giving birth to high-rise mountains like Himalayas. But this type of movement takes place after a long period of time and may partially or totally changes the larger portion of a vast landscape. Even than no perdition can be made for such extreme incidents. Earthquakes with origin less deeper in the earth prove to be more disastrous than one with deeper centre.
